Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Columbus is an architectural showcase with a population of 39,000. The city turned an eye toward contemporary design and modern architecture in the 1940s, when Eliel Saarinen designed the First Christian Church, and has never turned back. Since then Columbus has been ranked among the top 10 cities in the United State for architecture. Sections of downtown have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places and given National Historic Landmark designations.

Walking, driving and bus tours highlight the city's notable buildings. More than 20 sites are listed on the architecture tour map including the Columbus Area Visitors Center, schools, churches and banks. A more complete list of architectural highlights is also available. Architects of note include I.M. Pei, Eliel and Earo Saarinen, Harry Weese and Richard Meier. Artist such as Dale Chihuly have added their touch to the city as well.

Columbus is 46 miles south of Indianapolis and 72 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky. It is accessible via Interstate Highway 65. There are national chain hotels, locally owned inns, and bed and breakfasts in Columbus.
