Ashland, Kentucky Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Ashland, a small town in extreme eastern Kentucky, perches on the banks of the Ohio River. Close to the borders of Ohio and West Virginia, Ashland, birthplace of the Judds and Billy Ray Cyrus, is a major stop on the Country Music Highway US 23, a National Scenic Byway.

The city's downtown features large, ornate homes built by early industrialists. Other downtown sites include an art gallery and Highlands Museum & Discovery Center, featuring interactive exhibits. Paramount Arts Center, a restored 1930 theater, presents an average of 120 performances each year including Broadway shows, ballet and music from alternative rock to country.

Four golf courses are located around Ashland. Nearby Greenbo Lake State Park features a stone lodge overlooking the lake plus a campground. Outdoor recreation includes 25 miles of nature hiking trails, fishing, boating, swimming and biking.

Dining options range from fast food to C.R. Thomas Old Place for gourmet burgers. For a little wild nightlife, visit Bar W Rodeo Productions to see "bull riding at its best".

Ashland is located about 120 miles east of Lexington, KY. Take US 25 S to US 68 E on to I-64 east. Then take US 60 E to Exit 181.
